What’s your role at Groop?
I am an Account Executive for Groop. I work with Public Sector, Local Authorities, Charities and Sports organisations primarily to encourage them to use our community management software.
What does a typical day look like?
A typical day for me starts in the gym! I’m in the gym by 6am most mornings and I find it really gives me energy for the day. Then it’s coffee and a catch up with the lovely Groop team when I get to work. I then usually have scheduled calls with organisations where I discuss the software and see how we can work together. The day always flies by, so then it’s back home to my fiancé for some Netflix binging and wedding planning!
What’s your background?
I love this question because I am genuinely not sure how I ended up in sales! I originally trained to be a professional Dancer at Dance Academy South West and went on to work on Holiday Parks soon after. I then started dancing abroad as a showgirl, touring different hotels in Greece as part of variety shows. After 5 years, I returned to the UK to start a fitness business and sell gym memberships. My previous role was selling advertising space for BBC Wildlife, which I loved, but it was based in Bristol. The commute got the better of me so I decided to work closer to home and was lucky enough to get the role at Groop (during lockdown too!).
What skills do you need for your job?
I believe that to be a good salesperson, you ultimately have to be a good listener. You have to be caring and you have to be genuine. Being personable makes sales much less intimidating – plus I like to make new friends. ?
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Besides the 5 minute commute! I love that I am able to provide such a fundamental piece of software which can aid, support and save time for so many good causes. Being part of an organisation’s success is true work satisfaction for me.
How do you spend your spare time? (What volunteering do you do outside of work?)
I do as much fundraising as I can for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. I took part in their #EPT80in1 challenge in August, raising over £200, which involved completing 80 miles of exercise by the end of the month. A cause that is close to my heart.
I also love spending time with my Niece and Nephew. I’m learning to speak better Greek too. Wedding planning is taking up lots of time as well but the thing I enjoy the most is watching Selling Sunset on Netflix – it’s AMAZING! Highly recommend!
What’s your biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement was landing my first professional dancing contract. I worked and trained so hard for something that paid minimal amounts, but I didn’t want to do anything else.
Apart from that I LOVE being the best Auntie I can to my beautiful Niece and Nephew.
