What’s your role at Groop?
I connect people to Groop – we then work hard to build long term partnerships.
I enjoy what I do as I get to build lasting relationships, make new friends and hear first-hand about the amazing work that happens in the world of charity, sport, corporate and community and I find a way to introduce what Groop offers and how we can support these sectors.
What’s your background?
I’m the third eldest of eight children, my childhood was chaotic – my siblings and I lived with seven dogs, nine cats and more rabbits than I kept track of, which ensured there was never a dull day in my household. I still eat really quickly just in case dinner runs out; however as I now live with my partner who is a really good cook, I am trying to eat slowly and savour every mouthful. I find clothes shopping is still a challenge as I am so used to hand me downs! I wouldn’t change any of this as having a crazy big family and lots of animals has taught me a great deal about sharing, kindness, sticking up for myself and respect. All good life lessons.
After my education I stumbled into the world of sales. I never thought sales would be my thing, but to me it’s a chance to connect and help people. I get the most satisfaction from work when I see my recommendation and knowledge improve the quality of somebody’s life; at Groop I get to do this every day. The organisations I work with all contribute to positive social change and for me, to be a part of that change and know that what I do supports the people who make the most difference, is a huge driving force for me. In my very first sales role at Virgin Media, I will always remember selling a new phone to a couple and setting up their video call for them so they could wave to their Grandchild in Australia for the first time. I am on a career mission to use tech for good!
How do you spend your spare time? (What volunteering do you do outside of work?)
Aside from my much needed wake up runs (10km record morning run so far!) and my ongoing passion for animals – I now own one lizard, and two tropical tree frogs, Ralph and Clyde – I also volunteer for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride. As Stalls Manager I am responsible for booking the local business and community stands for our annual Pride event. Pride is not just about delivering an incredible event experience, throughout the year we work with local youth groups, host parties and if you’re in Swindon on a Sunday, come and find me at Camp Bingo.
What’s your biggest achievement?
This is a tough one. I struggled for ages to buy a house, constantly hitting a brick wall (yeah, I heard it too!) so I was over the moon when I was finally able to make it happen.
Any recommendations to share?
Always be yourself, nobody else will do.
